Choosing the right entertainment for your wedding

Only the best will do when it comes to your wedding day. The forward planning needed to make it as perfect as possible will come down to military precision, from the day itself, to how you dress, to the flowers and then to the honeymoon - there is a lot to organise! The entertainment you choose however will set the atmosphere for all of your guests and, if done correctly, will provide a seamless backdrop that enhances the entire event.

With the pressure on we have devised this list of ideas, separated by the sections of the day, to help you make those important entertainment decisions.

The ceremony

As the moment that will change the rest of your life, the ceremony's music needs to reflect both your future, present, past and current emotions. Depending on your character it may suit you to enter the venue to the soundtrack of a full blown steel orchestra. However, a more traditional entrance will see a pianist or organist lightly playing uplifting music.

The signing of the register

The process of signing the register can end up becoming quite lengthy and attempting to keep your guests in one place (especially if they have children) can prove quite a task. A fantastic way to combat this is to create a focus with a musical accompaniment, a soprano or tenor singer may seem audacious but it will certainly mark the event and keep people's attention. Again, a more traditional-style wedding could see a string quartet, a harpist or an oboe trio.

The speeches, reception and food

There are many options to consider when it comes to the reception. Depending on your character it may suit you to incorporate a sophisticated jazz band, harpist, string quartet, cocktail jazz piano or even something a bit more upbeat such as a swing band. If you'd prefer to create a more chilled out atmosphere, allowing your guests to get to know one another a bit more, it might be nice to have a soft accompaniment such as a simple flute.

The party

The party is the exciting bit. You can really enjoy your new married life at this point, and your music should highlight this. This doesn't mean you need to crank the volume up and go crazy, you may choose to go suave and sophisticated with a gentle band. However, this does need to reflect your person so if its more to your taste you could chose a rock and roll band or a Latin and salsa ensemble, the party is all about what you most enjoy having a good time to. Before making any solid decision it's advisable to look at your record collection and consider what you listen to most, it may be that a tribute band or a '50s, '60s, '70s or '80s theme reflects what you enjoy the most. You could even do something totally different like hiring karaoke machines. The joy of the party part of your wedding is that there are no restrictions or traditions, it's entirely about what you and your partner want to hear. Enjoy!
