There is nothing wrong with visiting some generic seaside destination and flopping on the beach for a couple of weeks. However, it has to be said, that as relaxing as these types of breaks are, they are often far from memorable. What many people really want to do is to explore and learn about a destination so that it becomes something more meaningful than a pretty picture postcard of a trip.

There are many far flung parts of the world which are rich in culture, steeped in history and full of vitality, not to mention awash with beautiful landscapes and alluring attractions. These might include Indochina with Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. These three wonderfully fascinating countries all echo with the past through the natural surroundings and famous cities and sites. What many people want on a trip like this is to be guided to the real jewels in each destination and have the opportunity to see the attractions, experience them, and to come away with a real understanding of a place.

Because of this, many travellers like to join in a group tour. By doing so they do not have to worry about the logistics of trips such as China holidays, where getting from Beijing to Shanghai and the silk route is part of the plans. Travel arrangements, and also knowing where to go and which is the most efficient route, is arguably best left to experienced tour operators who have taken the journey many times before.

It is not just practical reasons that such tours often appeal either, it is the attraction of sharing an experience, not just with those who you are going away with, but also the rest of the group. Knowing your itinerary and what is involved in your trip means you can sit back and savour each moment, whilst getting to know other people along the way.

Some independent travellers say that they often find it difficult to find a trip that fits in with exactly what they want to do. It may be that they have visited the country before and want to concentrate on certain regions, or they may have a specific interest. Either way they can have the best of both worlds if they choose an organised tour which is tailor-made to fit in with their preferences. A bespoke vacation is certainly different than joining the masses on yet another beach break.
