Lake Hartwell And The Beauties of Highlands, North Carolina

Lake Hartwell is a beautiful area within the United States that is located in South Carolina, as well as being in the Georgia mountains. It was originally formed by a dam that is located at Hartwell Georgia and built by the Corps of Engineers. It is accessible from many popular areas, such as being within two hours of downtown Atlanta as well as being about the same distance from Charlotte, North Carolina. Of course, as is the case with many large lakes such as this, it is not only about the water but there are many other interesting things that can be done in the area.

Before we discuss any of the other items that may be available, it would be a good idea to discuss the water itself because it is one of the more popular reasons why people may come to the area. There are approximately 56,000 acres that make up the lake which includes 962 miles of shoreline. Around the shoreline, there are approximately 80 areas where you can launch a boat publicly as well as many park and recreation areas that can be utilized by families.

The water itself is an excellent place for you to spend the day, either on the shore or on your boat. Waterskiing as well as fishing are very popular pastimes in this area and the boating itself is considered to be some of the best that is found in all of Georgia and South Carolina. If you're looking for stripped bass, you will find that Lake Hartwell has some of the biggest with some reaching over 50 pounds in weight. Of course, it is not necessary for you to do any of those active items because the islands and shoreline provide an excellent place for you to spend some quiet time and to get away from your day-to-day life.

Another item that you would want to consider when in the area is golfing. There are over 30 courses that are nearby, many of which are of championship quality. In fact, it is difficult to find a place along the lake where you could say that does not have at least one or two golf courses within driving distance. So if you're going to be coming out for more than the water, be sure that you bring your clubs along and spend at least one day on the courses. You may also want to make it a dedicated golfing vacation as well, and you certainly will not be disappointed.

It is possible for you to stay near the lake or you can stay a bit away from the lake and have access to more modern day items. An example of this is Highlands, a small community in NC that has a small population but big access to many of the items which you can enjoy for vacation. This would include hiking, fishing and access to many waterfalls, as well as access to the lake.
