AdWords Search Query Report Update

One of the reports available through AdWords is the search term report. The report helps advertisers find the actual search terms which triggered the broad/phrase match keywords present in your account. Advertisers can chose to add the actual search terms to existing ad groups, if they are relevant. If they are not, you can add them as negative keyword.

AdWords recently updated the report to also show search terms for which you ads were displayed but didn’t generate clicks

The new data has two significant benefits for advertisers:

1. If the terms are not relevant, add them to your ad group or campaign level negative keywords list

2. As an advertiser you can find search terms related to topics/new customer segments you can advertise to but currently don’t have those terms in your AdWords campaigns.

There are two reasons why your ads might not be getting clicks:

1. Ads are not relevant to the keywords for which your ads are displayed on search results 2. Google, and you as an advertiser, might be looking at the keywords in different context. There are instances where you have keywords in your account wanting to target specific user intentions. But Google displays your ads for different search terms (due to match types) which are irrelevant to you what you offer. The reason could be Google might be treating the terms differently than what you think.

We suggest you can check to make sure Google treats the terms with the same relevancy by conducting a few searches on the Google search engine and checking the search results as well as the ads being displayed for the keywords on search results.
