When Planning For Furniture

Thinking of the pieces of furniture that the owner may already have is crucial when designing homes. The owner, for instance, may already have a four-poster bed that has been passed on from one generation to another or probably the owner has an antique chest that's part of his collection. Therefore, measuring these pieces should be done and make sure that while you do this, take note of the measurements.

The measurements would be helpful if, in case, the dimensions do not fit the standard opening of a conventional door. When this happens, you will be using other entrance when it's time to move in. You may use the window but to do this, the furniture should already be put in before making all the finishing touches.

There are also cases where there is no existing furniture to be used but the owner strongly insists to buy a certain kind of bed for the home. Of course, these cases are exceptional because usually, the designer or architect is the final authority when it comes choosing the right furniture. Designers will have the presumption when designing the house that standard sizes of furniture will be used. Consequently, the furniture has to be laid out in the plan so that the locations of the convenience outlets and switches are located in proximity to the furniture. If not, using ugly extension wires will be inevitable. The lighting plan is also dependent on where the pieces of furniture will be placed.

Thus, designers should partake in buying of the pieces of furniture and fixtures. When this happens, designers will be able to know what color schemes will be used for each of the room. In fact, he can even use different themes when decorating each room. Using period themes like Renaissance, Gothic are some examples. Or he might use Culture themes like Japanese or Egyptian.

But today, some designers go for the eclectic design which is the combination of different kinds of styles. However, when opting for eclectic styles, make sure that you think of the rules of aesthetics since this is an art. You have to follow certain rules and these rules may vary from one designer to another.

But there is a general rule that is standard for all designers - never mix more than 3 genres. One way to do it will be to combine many styles of furniture as long as these pieces are made of the same material like wood or that all of these pieces have a common pattern or shape.
