What Is a Kenwood Chef?
When you hear the term Kenwood chef, what do you think of? Well hopefully it is not a chef called Kenwood, because if that is the case the people in the Kenwood marketing department have not done as well as they hoped.
For the past 60 years the marketing team at Kenwood have been working towards getting people to automatically think of a kitchen mixing machine when they hear the words Kenwood Chef. To a very large extent they have been successful, because that is exactly what most people think of when they hear the words Kenwood Chef. That is a machine that can be used in the kitchen for a variety of mixing tasks.
Who Invented The Kenwood Chef?
You will be pleased to know that the inventor of the Kenwood chef was a guy called Ken Wood, hence the name.
You would expect that to have invented a machine like this Mr Wood would have had a background as a chef, but he didn’t. He was in fact an engineer for the Admiralty who worked on developing radar and other electronic gadgets.
After the war he founded his own company called Woodlau Industries with his wartime colleague Roger Laurence. They produced kitchen appliances including the A100 turnover toaster and A200 food mixer. When his colleague Roger left the company the name was changed to the Kenwood Manufacturing Company Ltd. The, now famous, Kenwood Chef was launched in 1950 and was an immediate success. It has remained popular around the world ever since.
What the Kenwood Chef Can Do
The Kenwood Chef was designed to be durable enough and big enough to complete all of the mixing tasks you have when baking. It can be used to mix batter, make meringue or to make dough. It has a wide variety of attachments and variable speeds to ensure that enough air is incorporated into each mix and all of the ingredients are completely mixed together. It even comes with a kneading hook, meaning that you can make bread from beginning to end with no manual labour.
