Centuries ago, rings would tell others about a mans wealth, power, and status in society. That is, men wore rings not as a marriage symbol. The terms wedding ring and wedding band are considered synonymous with each other. Mens wedding rings are usually made of either stainless steel, 14K white gold, 14K yellow gold, or stainless steel and 18K yellow gold. These can be hardened by adding copper and silver or with tin and bismuth. In the market today, popular rings are made of titanium, platinum, and tungsten. Titanium is a favorite now because it is strong yet lightweight, weighing at least 1/3 lighter than gold. Platinum is also strong. Its advantages include its sheen which stays for a long time and its being hypo-allergenic. The downside is its high cost and weight which is 60% more than gold.

Men's rings have simpler designs compared to women in general. This is because men are more less inclined to the "drama" when it comes to fashion and accessorizing. The choice of the ring will reflect on the personality of the one wearing it. Husbands that are more fashionable would appreciate rings with intricate designs. But those who don't care about the design would prefer rings that have less designs and intricate details. Wedding bands can come in different types like flat or some may have a center canal. This is called inset band which can be filled with another metal.

Today, men's wedding band have become more intricate in designs. Whatever the design, mens wedding bands can now be as exciting as those of women's.
