Perhaps, it is better to take note of your own interests as you plan your future home. If you are a fitness aficionado, then adding a small gym can be included. Adding a mini bar or a basement game room can be added if you enjoy having friends around.

If you usually eat breakfast alone, have a simple breakfast space. It is good to list down everything you want in this home, including the number the number of bedrooms, bathrooms, whether you would like to have a library, a guest room or, perhaps, a home theater. If he shows you photographs of different properties, visiting these properties personally is ideal. This step is quite obvious. There are properties that only show you the front part of the house. There are even some properties that don't even have a single photo. And you might want to be careful with those that are products of photoshops. If you are planning to buy a house in a specific area, then it would be best to consult an agent who focuses on a particular area. The area expert will not just provide you with information about the home, but also a demographic information of the said area, crime reports, and other important information on the locality. Think about the ownership costs as possible. Limiting yourself only to mortgage and utilities is not ideal.

Make sure that you include all other expenses related to the purchase like taxes, insurance, maintenance and repair costs. Don't be conservative, size these up. Then, you can now compute the home's level of affordability.
