Gaming: the technological background

The principal source of inspiration for our work on the decorating tool, RobinHus.dk is the gaming program downloadable from SIMS and probably the best-selling computer game ever. The key lies in getting users to come back time after time, whilst also inviting their friends to join them in their new “universe”. Essentially, it’s all about engaging with a complete design experience and community by having fun with all the products on display.

We help to set the scene within the home that you have for sale and allow users full creative rein over a range of design products – a chair becomes no longer just a chair, but much more than that, a veritable lifestyle element. The arrangement of mere furniture becomes something entirely under the buyer’s control.

In this way, we’re not only buying a new house, but getting involved in the whole process of its interior design through the fun of creative expression.

Under the bonnet of the design tool itself is the Danish-developed game engine, Unity3D, which has become the de facto web standard for the growing games industry. So it is that the games industry – riding on the wave of its technological infrastructure – is able to finance an ever-improving graphical representation of real estate and furniture. Therefore, we’ve a lot to thank the gaming and entertainment industry.
