How to Make your Own Flapper 1920's Dress

Looking around today, you would see lots of gorgeous looking women of different ages wearing different types of jewelry, shoes, sandals and accessories. Today, women find it very easy to look good because of the many developments especially when it comes to beauty enhancement products like soaps, lotions, cosmetics and many more. But one thing that really makes a woman look beautiful is her dress.

Today, there are many styles of dresses that a woman can wear. She can pick out styles from casual, sporty, glam and many more. Try looking at fashion icons in Hollywood, you will surely see them wearing flapper dresses.

These are the dresses that were introduced during the early 20s. However today, these dresses are worn by a new breed of women. After enduring years of torturous corsets and long manes which were becoming too inconvenient, they started to wear skirts and cut their hair into bobs.

In general, these flapper dresses are straight in design and the waist part is loose which dropped down to the hips and it is usually sleeveless. Stockings held up with garters are worn together with these dresses. But in the 1927, flapper dresses worn below the knee were emerging.

You can make your own flapper dress by following the guidelines below:

1. Pick out the pattern that you want for your flapper dress.

2. Have someone take the proper measurements of your body- the waist, bust, hip, back waist length, front waist length, shoulder-to-bust, shoulder length, back width length, arm length, upper arm and shoulder-to-elbow. After you had your measurements taken, you are now ready to pick out the pattern that will fit you.

3. You can make a few adjustments. You can start by making a test dress first. You can put on the dress while you are sewing the test version so that you can determine which parts need adjustments.

4. You can now finalize your pattern. Once you have seen that everything looks perfect, you can now take a part of the test version and then use these sections to replace the original pieces. But before you do your finishing touches, make sure that you put the dress on and see if there are parts that need adjustments and modifications. And when everything is good, you can now finish the hems and add details.

Voila! You now have your own flapper dress. To complete the look, wear the dress with a beaded necklace or probably a long per necklace.
