National Weather Service
National Weather once known as the Weather Bureau is one of the six scientific agencies that make up the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) of the United States government. It’s headquartered is situated in Silver Spring, Maryland. The NWS provides weather, hydrologic and climate forecasts and warnings for the U.S. And also including its territories, adjacent waters and ocean areas. It also gives information of data gathered from a broad national infrastructure covering land, sea and air (atmospheric weather). In 1870 the Weather Bureau was established with the mission "to provide for taking meteorological observations at the military stations in the interior of the continent and at other points in the States and Territories and for giving notice on the northern (Great) Lakes and on the seacoast by magnetic telegraph and marine signals, of the approach and force of the storms and makes hurricane weather report . The agency’s mission includes the providence to “protect life and property and enhance the national economy. This is done through the collection of national and regional centers, and more than 120 local weather forecast offices. They are charged with issuing weather forecasts, advisories, watches, and warnings on a daily basis. They are issuing more than 734,000 weather and 850,000 river forecasts, and more than 45,000 severe weather (atmospheric weather) warnings annually. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration data is also relevant to the issues of ozone depletion and global warming. The National Weather Service has issued a weather advisory recommending extreme caution for heat and humidity. A significant portion of NWS forecasting is directed toward the general public. Because coded products are very difficult to understand by someone not familiar with the coding, most national weather repot public products are written using basic meteorological terminology in a sentence format. Meteorology is the interdisciplinary scientific study of the atmospheric phenomena which focuses on weather processes and forecasting (in contrast with climatology). By Studies in the field’s stretch back millennia, though significant progress in it did not occur until the eighteenth century. In the nineteenth century saw breakthroughs occur after observing networks developed across several countries. Latter on in the midth of the twentieth century there was lots of breakthroughs were achieved in weather forecasting after the development of the computer. Everyone talks about the weather and how often the forecasts are wrong. More and more people are asking for more and more information about climate and how it's going to affect them. The National Weather Service has developed a multi-tier concept for forecasting or alerting the public to all types of hazardous weather. The NWS issues a comprehensive package of forecast products to support a variety of users, including the general public. The main public forecasts products are as follows. 1. Zone Forecast Product (ZFP) - Forecast responsibility through day seven. 2. Short Term Forecast (NOW) - Weather information during significant and/or fast-changing hydro meteorological conditions during the next six hours. 3. Area Forecast Matrices (AFM) - Displays various weather parameters at 3, 6 and 12 hour intervals for the areas specified in the current ZFP. 4. Area Forecast Discussion (AFD) – Give information about the scientific rationale behind a forecast and to summarize current watches/warnings/advisories in effect. 5. Tabular State Forecast Product (SFT) – It gives information about the general seven-day public forecast of hydro meteorological conditions at specific locations over a WFO's area of responsibility. 6. Graphics cast – It forecast picture using the basic meteorology descriptions of the weather, and weather map icons. 7. Surf Zone Forecast (SRF) – IT give information of the text forecast for local beaches issued by coastal WFOs, along with the coastal hazard information such as that pertaining to rip currents. 8. Point Forecast Matrices (PFM) - displays various weather parameters at 3, 6 and 12 hour intervals for significant cities in the WFO area of responsibility.
