It was after one year; in 2003 he ranked himself among the top 100 tennis players and broke records set by Roger Federer and was awarded “ATP Newcomer of the Year” title.
Though he could not win Wimbledon, he left behind a very positive impression. To reach the 3rd round of the game, he tied the youngest player, Boris Becker. It was in the same year he lost to Lopez in the Spanish championships.
With his impressive performance and victory in remarkable line of 25 matches in 2005, he became the 5th best tennis player in the world. Rafael Nadal emerged victorious in two of the ATP Master Series, Rome and Monte Carlo. He was quite close to Roger Federer and ahead of Andy Roddick. Grand Slam victory cemented his place in the world of tennis and he became the 1st teenager who did this after Pete Sampras way back in the 90s.
Rafael Nadal has gained a lot of momentum in the past years and is equaled with Federer. He won the Olympic gold medal in the men’s singles in 2008 and occupied the No.1 position from August 2008 - July 2009. Rafael Nadal is said to be the only player who held Grand Slam titles on hardcourt, clay and grass.
