Can England defeat the world champions?

This summer will see cricket fans from all over the United Kingdom - and indeed the world for that matter - converge on London to see England take on India in a test match at Lord’s Cricket Ground in July.

The match itself is sure to be a huge attraction for even casual fans of the sport. After all, with India’s recent victory at the Cricket World Cup, it means that many fans based in the UK will have a very rare chance to see the world champions up close. Even more interesting for many, will be the opportunity to see how England perform against the world champions, after all, a victory will give the team (and entire country for that matter) bragging rights and the ability to claim that they are the “uncrowned world champions”.

Unfortunately however, England will have to be at the very top of their game to even have a chance of beating the seemingly unstoppable Indian team. The Indians swept aside all challengers on their way to a famous victory at the World Cup in April, and if England’s performance at that particular tournament is anything to go by, then they’ll certainly need to up their game to even challenge the Indian side.

However, stranger things have been known to have happened – particularly so when the English side have played well in the past - and the test match promises to be a treat for all fans who watch it. The test is also sure to prove a big hit with the UK’s Indian population, of which the cricket fans among them are sure to make the trip down to London to cheer on their national side. Similarly, a large number of English cricket fans are expected to make the journey to Lord’s to get right behind their team as they attempt to up-end the reigning world champions.

As such, there is expected to be a huge surge in visitors to London over the week of the test, and anyone making the trip would be well advised to make sure that they have sorted out their tickets for the game as well as accommodation and travel well in advance of their trip. Whatever part of London you’re planning on staying – whether it’s a Maida Vale hotel, one in Westminster or one a bit further away from Lord’s, it’s advisable to make sure that you’re booked up early to avoid disappointment once you arrive in the city.
