Distance learning a smart way of following courses by distances

Distance learning is the method of offering education or teaching a single student who is not present in the classroom/school/college physically. Although it has seen widespread usage in today’s world, the concept dates back to the 16th century. At present there are a number of universities around the world offering various courses by distances.Distance learning relies greatly on postal services. The process involves sending the lessons to the students by mail. The universities or institutions send their study materials and notes to the students via mail and the students have the ample opportunity to go through these notes at their own convenient times.

The advent of computers and the internet have made this mode of education easier than what it was before. Distance learning can be of two types. These are synchronous learning and asynchronous learning.In case of synchronous learning, the students are present at the same time. Although the students are located at different locations, in the virtual world they are present together at the same time.

Thus the ambience of a classroom is retained to a great extent. In this system of learning, the teacher and the students interact with each other with the help of teleconferencing, web conferencing, live streaming, video conferencing or web based VoIP.In case of asynchronous learning, it solely depends upon the mood and timing of the students. The students can access study materials when it is convenient for them. This mode of learning courses by distances does not require the students to be present together even in the virtual world. In this system of learning, the modes of imparting education include e-mail, fax, postal correspondence, video footages, audio clippings and message forums.

The tremendous amount of flexibility that the distance education offers is the main reason for its growing popularity. It has added new meanings to the definition of education which is no longer remaining confined within the four walls of the classroom. With easy access to computers and the net connectivity, everyone is looking forward to go after distance learning. Even if you are away from the university or institution, the separation created by distance can be easily recovered. And if you manage to do the courses by distances it will help you in the long run.
